My Swedish Discoveries (2): Gray Brigade

Additional Info

Gray Brigade released their album „Owl Archives“ in April this year. Since then it became very silent around them. No profile updates anymore and no replies to my interview requests. Nevertheless I think their music is definitely worth a mention here. So they are my second Swedish discovery although they have already appeared in Swedish music scene around 2005. The (admittedly big) ensemble from Stockholm delights us with fresh melancholic Indie Pop. I really hope they're going to get on the stage of music business again soon.

And here is how Dr. Emmet Gray (haven't found out yet which role he plays) introduces the Gray Brigade: A few weeks ago I found myself in Berlin, aimlessly drifting through the halls of a murky Museum of Natural History. There, among the dry bones of dinosaurs that had perished many million years ago, I experienced a sudden rush of acute melancholy and slight panic. Somehow the skeletal forms of these majestic creatures long lost seemed to say something pertinent about our own… situation. In the airwaves we heard the roaring news of a society that had placed its bets on the wrong system - and lost. In another part of town there was a 150-year-jubilee for Darwins thesis on The Origin of the Species. You do your own math. We’re in a bad way here… A few days later I got the new song from my darling protegées in the rock’n’roll band Gray Brigade. And it just can’t be a coincidence. On their forthcoming album they’ll take us on what promises to be a heartbreakingly beautiful Waltz at the End. The first offering, titled The Little Engine That Could, is a piece of fatalistic doom disco that somehow come out curiously hopeful. And how I love them for it. Because this is what it all comes down to now. We don’t want to make matters worse. We just want to help. Yours sincerely, Dr. Emmet Gray; supervisor/banker/philanthropist - on behalf of his Gray Brigade! And here's the video to their single "Love Is Blind But Now I See":
