Introducing One Spark Berlin Music Creators (2): Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra

Published September 03 2014.

  by Mario

Here comes part 2 of our One Spark Start Berlin music creator introduction. I talked to Hada Benedito, who created the Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra about their One Spark project ...

50K MUSIC: What is the Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra. Please tell us a bit about the band.
Hada: The Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra consists of a dozen of experimental musicians, improvisers and composers, all coming from very different backgrounds and countries. As a result of this creative mixture, our music could be described as a trip of obscure and colorful images, an expansive way of traveling among improvisation and contemporary music beyond free jazz.

50K MUSIC: Where do you all come from (musically)?
Hada: Mainly from contemporary and classical music, jazz and free jazz music, and free improvisation.

50K MUSIC: Would you please explain the Soundpainting approach.
Hada: Soundpainting is the multidisciplinary live composing sign language for Musicians, Actors, Dancers, and Visual Artists created in Woodstock, New York 1974 by Walter Thompson. Presently (2014) the language comprises more than 1200 gestures that are signed by the Soundpainter to indicate the type of material desired of the performers. The creation of the composition is realized through the parameters of each set of signed gestures.

50K MUSIC: You've decided to apply for One Spark Berlin? Why?
Hada: Since we are so many musicians to organize and everything takes so much energy, we would be happy to get some support (money!) for our exciting projects and help to step forward!

50K MUSIC: ... and what do you expect from taking part at this crowdfunding festival?
Hada: We expect to spread our music and artistic ideas, create a bigger network, and of course get support for our projects.

50K MUSIC: How do you prepare for One Spark?
Hada: We always offer a peculiar show which is always changing. For this event we will organize something that fits in the space and time of the event. We will rehearse some special "palettes" and maybe some "Flying Fishes" to surprise the audience.

50K MUSIC: And last one: anything you want your fans and future One Spark supporters to know?
Hada: We are putting so much creativity, love and energy in this project! But I think the audience can notice it anyway.
